Its great to have a bike in Fukuoka, Japan, and ride it. Having parking lots devoted to bikes is something that I am still getting used to. I have never in all my travels around the U.S. seen a place that has so many bikes, and bike riders. Even those people with a car are likely to have, and ride a bike. At first, I thought that it would be dangerous riding around the city with its small streets that at times are jammed with cars. After a few ventures out and about town I realized that a courtesy towards bycyclers exists from people driving cars that facilitates a safe riding experience. There is an unspoken way that people walk, ride bikes, and drive cars and motorcycles that allows everyone to be realitively safe. It looked pretty crazy at first, but it works. And, when you learn what to expect from everyone, then it becomes easy to navigate without much concern for safety. Its something that I have looked all over for, and have finally found. A place that I can have fun riding a bike on the road. How strange.
