Digital age promises lots of opportunities. One of which is the optimization of colors. This gives the photographers, total control over the printing process of both elegant black and white pictures and vibrant multi-colored pictures.
When we take pictures, we still use the same techniques that we have decades ago only that today, we are more secure and confident about the results. The latest technology helps us overcome limitations of the past. Limitations involve the manipulation of time, space as well as reality. With it, photographers can combine the outer space with the inner space, reality with fantasy, the present, past and the future. It is an interface which is beyond imagination. There they can do numerous photographic experiments to come up with a unique, strange and meaningful work of art. Digital technology gives us instant focus even with the tiniest orifice of the lens. Contrast scenes are given a wider consideration so we are getting the right exposure that we can get. We can say that limitations have not totally vanished nonetheless, they are shrinking and continue to shrink. A decade ago, photographers are using transparency film because digital cameras are not yet in existence. Today, this has already changed. Digital cameras are now giving off improved negative films.
Though film and digital photography have their advantages and disadvantages still, renowned photographers are using film in taking their priceless photographs. Experts say that film captures more detail thus, more information. This is because negative films have greater dynamic range compared to transparency films. They can get detailed highlights and shadows better than the other. For this reason, it is considered best for pictures intended for scanning purposes. The drawback though is the inaccuracy of profiles which is brought about by poor processing standards. The negatives are also prone to have more noise. Still, it is worth knowing that the easiest to scan are those from transparencies. However, a transparency has also its limitation. It has meager exposure latitude. It is quite impossible to get accurate details in a scene with strong contrast. Thus, if the details about shadows and highlights are not found in the film, much so in the scanned version. Most of the digital cameras nowadays have excellent exposure latitude equivalent to transparency film. This can be a very good consideration in buying a camera.
