The fear of failure most times prevents us from making a move towards achieving our innermost desires. Many of us are particularly concerned about what people around us would say when things don’t go the way we expected.
This unfortunate state of the mind kinds of paralyses our ability to think out of the box that the crowd of average people are accustomed to.
A cursory look at people who have succeeded in whatever endeavors they have undertaken reveal a number of factors that have driven them in their desired direction. One of these factors is their confidence level. These folks have built their confidence level as a result of some of the things they do or simply do not do.
Made people, as I would want to refer to them, believe nothing is impossible. As simple as this statement looks or sounds as you read, it carries a lot of meaning for those that have used it to drive their ideas to practical success. There are a number of things that anyone and I mean anyone could do to build their confidence level and these include:
v Having a firm believe in yourself and whatever idea you are pursuing. It may indeed be the case that a review of the current idea one is working on will reveal some flaws. The review is necessary to make slight modifications in your plans so that you do not waste time in moving in a direction that is not taking you to where you want to go – ultimately you will get there once you do not give up along the way.
The little accomplishments along the way will certainly soar your confidence level simply because you were most likely the only one who believed in your seemingly “crazy” idea as perceived by others.
v Reading materials and listening to audiotapes that motivate and inspire you in your desired course of action. You could have at one time or the other in the past had a great surge of excitement in your body after having heard a piece of news (passing an examination, the safe arrival of a long seen loved one, the birth of a new addition to the family, etc).
Inspirational materials have the same effect as research has shown that the body’s adrenaline flows better from receiving motivational news and this results in even improving your health. Moreover, when you learn from other people’s life experience that they have successfully been through what you are trying to overcome, your confidence level will definitely soar.
v Interacting with people of like minds. You certainly must have experienced times when you or a friend was a victim of peer pressure that involved mockery of a rather damaging nature. This has a way of demoralizing one to think that what you set out to do is not achievable.
Moving with people that share similar views with you would most certainly make you see the viability of your endeavour because those words of encouragement keep coming more than the damaging ones from dream thieves who make constant mockery of you. As you ignore the “noise” that comes from their criticisms and focus on your goals, your confidence will soar as you then interact more with like-minded people.
v Controlling the thoughts that get into your mind. Research has proven that we can control the thoughts that get into our conscious minds whether negative or positive.
These thoughts then get into our subconscious mind and little by little begin to manifest into the reality that happens around us. Feeding our conscious mind continuously with positive thoughts would manifest positive results – feeding our minds with negative thoughts would achieve the exact opposite.
In giving you an example of the truth in this statement, I would say that before I married my wife, I used to have a morbid fear of thunder that accompanies lightning during thunderstorms that dates back to when I was a child and that dreadful feeling followed me even to adulthood.
I would cover my ears with whatever was available to prevent me from hearing the thunder sounds. I however, noticed that my wife never shook when those same sounds occur, not even at night when I would have become fully awake and keep praying that the storm would just pass away.
It was when she convinced me not to be scared of the thunder sound during rainstorms that I began to feed those positive thoughts into my conscious mind that nothing is wrong with the thunder sound and I’m proud to say that I have since overcome that unhealthy fear I had for over 15years about thunder during rainstorms.
v Increase your words’ vocabulary. There is this inherent confidence that comes from one’s ability to express himself properly using the right words. It even captures your listener’s attention because it gives him the impression that you are a well-read person.
I’m not saying you should just juggle words with the aim of impressing people since that may not translate into success in whatever you are trying to achieve. Learning new words as often as possible from a dictionary, preferably everyday, will result in your ability to speak confidently as you will have a rich word vocabulary to draw from in expressing yourself.
