A Secret Guide To Mega Coupon Collecting.
I remember as a child in the supermarket, my mother at the checkout line sorting through
her pocketbook looking for that elusive coupon to save 25 cents on a loaf of bread. I used
to think of how much trouble she went through to save a quarter.
Now that I am the one at the checkout line, I understand how those quarters add up.
Recently, I was watching a television show where a women demonstrated how she saved
over one hundred dollars on her grocery bill with coupons. Her total bill was about 300 dollars.
After submitting her coupons the bill came to just over 200 dollars. She had saved just about
1 third of her shopping expense in one fell swoop. Now if you multiply that by 4 weeks of shopping…
That 400 dollars can pay off a monthly car payment!
Needless to say, that T.V. show got me thinking. I started to research the best possible ways
to organize and use coupons for optimal savings. I will now share with you a few different ways
to get started in a mega coupon saving experience.
Coupon Sources :
I have found the best coupon deals to be in the Sunday paper. I live in New York and have easy
access to 3 major newspapers. I spend Sunday mornings cutting out coupons and filing them
according to categories. I also have made a deal with my local news stand to purchase his
unsold Sunday papers on Monday at a fraction of the selling price. He is happy because he does not
have to throw them out, and I am happy because I average close to 1000 dollars in coupons
that would otherwise be lost.
Another good source for coupons are local coupon clubs. These are relatively easy to find.
You can find them in local publications , or start your own by posting a note in local super markets
and libraries. Some of my best friendships have been created through such clubs. Let me tell you,
there is nothing like going to a coupon swap club meeting with 200 dollars worth of coupons and
leaving with 500 dollars worth of coupons. It”s like I have won a poker game or hit the lottery. One
word of advice.. Be sure to check the expiration dates on the coupons, I”ve had my share of those
at these swap meets.
Finally, my secret weapon to mega coupon collecting… Local advertising.
One day I decided to take a chance and advertise in my local community newspaper. The advertisement
cost me $9.99 for a 1 week run. The wording of the ad was simple : ” I pay cash for your unwanted coupons.”
When that ad came out I was flooded with phone calls for at least a month. When I received the calls I simply offered
$1.00 for every $100.00 worth of coupons. People were bending over backwards to collect, sort and sell me their coupons.
Be sure to let them know that you are not actually paying them for their coupons, but for their time and effort spent collecting,
cutting out, sorting etc. As coupons are not technically to be bought and sold.
Well… There you have it. My secrets to mega coupon collecting. Now when you see a child looking at their mom shuffling
for a 25 cent bread coupon at the checkout line…Smile and think of how you can consistently save over $100.00 on your grocery bill.
