Holiday for Busy Professionals

Many busy professionals are challenged by juggling their time effectively during the hectic holiday season. So we have taken some time of ours to help you in managing yours. Please consider these seven tips as your holiday gift from Seven Strategies for Success. Enjoy.
1. Practice good self care: Begin by taking care of yourself. When you feel good, others around you feel better automatically. Do something special for yourself every single day, even if it doesn’t seem as if there’s enough time. Do it even if you only have ten minutes to spare. Have a cup of tea, take a walk, have a bath, take time to step back for a moment and just breathe. Give yourself permission, it’s OK.
2. Avoid procrastination: Plan ahead and create a workable schedule to get everything important done. Keep it simple. Ask yourself these questions. Does this really need to be done? Would anyone care if I didn’t do it? Too many times, we are doing things only because they have always been done that way. Make sure you have realistic expectations of what you need to do.
3. Learn to delegate: Remember there is no such thing as perfect. When you delegate you are allowing some one else to help and feel important. Most people are happy to be of assistance and every little bit helps. Make saying yes easy. Start by becoming clear on what tasks brings you joy. Tasks which don’t are a wonderful place to begin delegating. You don’t have to do it all by yourself.
4. Express gratitude and appreciation: Start each day by being grateful for all the wonderful things in your life. Learn to be present in the moment. Look around you at the blessings in your life and say thank you. Take the time to stop and enjoy where you are and what you’re doing; the warmth from your teacup in your hand, the smell of baking and the sounds of holiday music. Stop, close your eyes and listen, smell the air, feel the chill on your cheeks and be grateful. Focus on what you have to be happy about this holiday season.
5. Be OK with saying no: It really is OK to say no to things you don’t have time for or don’t have an interest in participating. Saying yes because you are worried about what someone may say leaves you feeling out of control and not in integrity with yourself. Use “maybe” when you really want to take time to think about the request. After you have thought about it, then make your decision. Do not use maybe to avoid saying no. Say yes to those requests which you are excited about and no to those you aren’t. Choosing carefully how you spend your time demonstrates good self care.
6. Setting an Intention: When we are clear about the outcome we want to experience, we can create the vision to assist in making that vision a reality. Hoping for something or wishing for something does not have the same power as “intending” does. Intending says you fully expect your desired outcome to happen. You can then concentrate on the HOW instead of the IF. Set clear intentions for this holiday season. How do you want to feel (relaxed, happy, joyous) during and after the holidays?
7. Relax and Have Fun: This is second only to practicing good self care. You deserve to relax and have fun every day and the holiday season is no exception. Treasure every moment and see the best in everyone and every situation. Every moment is a gift to be savored.
