(ARA) – The next Olympic Games are less than a year away, but records are already being set in the host city: Athens, Greece. Recently, a mural displaying “The World’s Biggest Smile” was unveiled in Syntagma Square, in the heart of the capital city.
The 16,609 photos that make up the giant collage have secured Kodak, a long standing sponsor of the Olympic Games, a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Photographic Exhibition. Kodak’s support of the Olympic Games extends far beyond the photo collage to health imaging, accreditation and the overall look of the Games.
“The values of the Olympic Games have inspired the whole world. Now with the Games’ return to Athens, Kodak wanted to honor the Greek people by creating something memorable,” says Daniel A. Carp, Chairman and Executive Officer of the Eastman Kodak Company.
The record breaking image has a surface area of approximately 550 square meters, making it large enough to cover the side of a large building and visible more than a mile away. The photos that make up the collage were collected from the Greek community and arranged to form the image of a smiling child.
You don’t have to make the world’s largest mural to make an impression with your photographs. Murals and collages — on a much smaller scale – are gaining in popularity.
“The best way to come up with ideas for your photo display is to simply thumb through old photographs and come up with a theme,” says Jenny Varvagianni, Kodak Greece, Olympics & Marketing Manager. “Our theme was capturing the spirit of the Greek community and sharing in the joy and celebration of the homecoming of the Olympic Games.”
A good place to start when designing your collage is to sit down and think about your favorite memories or a milestone in your life. The “Big Smile” collage captured the face of a child, which is a perfect fit for the national welcome of the Olympic Games. A child is a symbol of optimism for the future, for happiness and peace, for a better world to come. As you prepare your photo collage, think of the things that are most special to you. Whatever you do, be creative. After all, you are making your own special memory.
